One commits suicide only if a little part of him/herself has always existed outside everything. It is about an initial inadaptability that might be also unconscious. The person destined to commit suicide is only by chance a part of this world. In fact he does not belong anywhere.

Desislava Shpatova

The English playwright Sarah Kane(1971 - 1999) remains in the history of contemporary theatre with the extraordinary extremity of her texts and their innovative theatricality. Her name is related to shocking facts - her career began with the unusual and cruel play "Blasted" and ended with the staggering "Psychosis 4.48", written short before she commited suicide. In this text full of poetry and pain, reality and imagination merge in a flow of consciousness between life and death. The famous director David Creig describes it as "a report from a region of the mind that most of us hope never to visit but from which many people cannot escape". The extremity of the text meets Dessislava Shpatova's directing style, whose previous stagings explore love and the painful states, caused by it, transmitting the emotional trajectory of the text into actors' bodies and gestures ("Dangerous Liaisons", "Idiot", "The Maids", "The Lover" and others).

Even after the first performing of the play in Bulgaria in the year 2005 on the stage of the International Theater Festival "The Summer of Varna", it became one of the most indisputable plays ever made in the country. In the year 2006 the play took part in the program of the International Theater Festival in Roan, France and in the International Theater Festival "MASK" in Seget, Hungary, where it got awarded for best foreign play.

"
If we can talk about tragic catharsis in the sense of Aristotle, we can talk about "Psychosis 4, 48". The spectators won't be the same after the experience of these 60 minutes. The two actors are not only partners, but the halves of one whole, who become one only for a moment - actors who have been "beyond" not only once. The inclusion of the two children is unique- All theatrical terms sound extrinsically and artificial for this performance. It's worth putting on its test and going through it."
